It has been an exciting year for us with the launch of The Modigliani Initiative, founded to support the artistic legacy of Amedeo Modigliani. Combing through data from auction and exhibition catalogues and reviews, archival records, literature and memoirs, we are building an online database and have begun sharing some of our findings with fellow scholars and museums. We published several stories about Modigliani’s early collectors and a previously unidentified model in the Spotlight section of our website, as well as shorter updates on our social media pages: Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. We had the privilege of visiting Modigliani Up Close, the exhibition at the Barnes Foundation which is open through January 29th. The show’s exemplary catalogue offers detailed, technical analyses of the works on view along with updated provenance information, making it a vital contribution to Modigliani scholarship. It is the latest in a series of catalogues to accompany an exhibition that analyzes the artist’s working methods.
