Hiding in Plain Sight: Renée Modot

For over one hundred years, the mesmerizing model in Modigliani’s Nude on a Divan has remained anonymous. Our latest research reveals that she was Renée Modot, wife of the popular French film actor Gaston Modot. Modigliani: Modern Gazes

After a successful run at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, the exhibition, Modigliani: Modern Gazes, is now scheduled to open at the Museum Barberini in Potsdam on April 27th and will run through August 18th. For more information on the exhibition, click here.

Returns: From Modigliani to Morandi

Self-Portrait, 1919, Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo

The Museo Novecento in Florence is currently hosting the exhibition Returns: From Modigliani to Morandi, celebrating masterpieces of 20th century Italian painting that once belonged to Italian collector Alberto Della Ragione. The show, which remains on view until September 15th, includes one of Della Ragione's most famous purchases: Modigliani's Self-Portrait, which entered his collection in 1944 and is now owned by the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo. Five graceful Modigliani drawings from the collection of Dr. Paul Alexandre will be offered for sale at Sotheby’s, Paris on April 23rd. Between 1907 and 1914, Alexandre was one of Modigliani’s earliest supporters and collectors. More information on the sale can be accessed here.
