The Modigliani Initiative’s principal activity is to methodically collect and review the extant records of the artist’s work.

Database

Until now, information related specifically to Modigliani’s life and work has not been maintained in a searchable, central location. To this end, The Modigliani Initiative has established and maintains a state-of-the-art database. The software’s user-friendly search features foster scholarly analysis and the ability to cross-reference works of art, dealers, collectors, exhibitions, and related literature.

Exhibitions and the critical reception of his artwork, collector and dealer purchases and sales, and early literature based largely on firsthand accounts offer essential pieces of information. Today, with the increasing availability of digitized source material in the public domain, such as dealers’ and collectors’ papers, art journals, newspapers and exhibition and auction catalogues, material that has previously been difficult to obtain and utilize has become widely accessible.

Once the database reaches a more advanced stage, it will be made accessible to the public online. Periodically, the organization will share updates on various topics of interest in the Spotlight and Modigliani Reconsidered sections of the website.
